I always love The Traditional Butter Cake and Mr Sherlock Holmes shares the same taste;)
Tonight is cold and nice and it's a good time for baking. This is my first time using silicone mould to bake cake:)
This recipe is using a lot of butter plus magerine,You need 250gm selfraising flour,250gm butter,100gm margerine,250gm sugar(but i put 200gm only),5 eggs,1/4 teaspoon salt,1 teaspoon vanilla essence. Method is simple- cream your butter.magerine, sugar until fluffy, add vanilla, salt, add eggs one by one and beat in between until light and fluffy, finally sift in the flour, mix well.,grease your silicone mould/cake pan well, spread in the batter and finally put in the pre heated oven(180 degrees).Bake for 40-45 mins.Very simple no frills cake but requires a long time beating.
After 15 or 20 mins when the cake starts to turn brown cover with aluminium foil or cake paper to stop the top browning process. After you cover it let it continue to bake until the heavenly smell fills your house:)
It smells really really nice that the girls couldn't wait to eat;)
Once out from the oven i didn't wait long to take out from the mould as there are 4 people waiting for it.(Because it's already 10.30pm..he he)
I love the colour:)The Silicone mould gives an even browning effect and the cake baked well.
I love the smell...my girls, uwan and husband cannot help themselves but asked 'when it's going to cook? As the smell was all over the house!" That's the joy of baking;)
And i love the texture..it is moist, buttery and soft.I ve been been trying to get this type of result for quite sometimes and I am most satisfied with this. one.
I give this cake 10/10;) The recipe is definitely for keep, i got it from one of the overseas website and if I am not mistaken,it was " Good Food... something.."
Who can resist hot and buttery cake? One slice was not enough for everybody;)
Night,night..I am in the mood of baking for these past few weeks..Will try few other recipes and will share a good one here:) I ve attended Wilton(ICCA) Baking Class,it gives good basic in baking but you have to find your own recipes to suit your taste and style.Wilton is a very professional according to the book methods, some of the recipes are not my liking,i dont like extremely sweet cake and elaborate taste. To me cake must be simple,if it a butter cake you must be able to savour the buttery flavour and if it a chocolate cake it should be simple enough but chocolatery at the same time. Having said that without a foundation in baking (attending the class) it will be quite difficult to master the method as the key to a succesful baking is not only in the recipes but more to method of baking it:) We can have the same recipe but the result will differ from one person to another depending on how you beat the eggs, cream the butter etc.
My principle is simple-the food must taste good and it shouldn't be difficult, you should have fun in the kitchen baking and cooking, dont shouldn't crack your head or be tension with what you are doing:) Hmmm...it is so nice to bake a cake with few friends in the kitchen...I envy Nigella, all her cooking looks deliciuos..everything looks superb except her unfamous tongue in the pot;):)
